Wassup with those expressions? I’m going to assume that this scene is meant to be sad and ~emotional~ but Red just looks bored/mildly annoyed. On the first panel his expression is literally :/

It kind of feels like AP is trying to be realistic here. Of course Blue would be angry after all the shit he’s gone through. BUT with that in mind, why can’t she stop making this all about how hard things have been for Red, our poor baby serial fucking murderer and rapist? I know she thinks he’s just the most sympathetic ever but please for consistency’s sake…

That’s what I don’t get about these suethor type of authors. They have some kind of weird phobia for having their character undergo any kind of struggle. So you end up with dumb scenes like this, where all the tension is thrown out the window b/c of her blatant favoritism/coddling.
And I suppose Blue is supposed to function as the author insert, kind of like Bella…and ukes in general I guess.

I honestly don’t understand why people treat their OCs like fragile little flowers. The fun in making character based fiction is to explore how different characters deal with the shit life throws at them IMO.
It reminds me of when me and my then-gf attempted to make a webcomic together. It was going to be the slice-of-life gang of friendz variety. We hadn’t been at it for long before I realized that she was a big ol OC coddler. Any conflict I tried to inject into the storyline was met with a barrage of objections. At one point I suggested that maybe the main pairing could split up at some point, and she actually took personal offense to that, because apparently that was her OTP.
Needless to say, the comic never took off.

        :v

Sorry to hear that your project didn’t make it. And I know what you mean. For the reader, it’s even worse in certain genres where tension is especially important. You have enormous amounts of effort dedicated to this build up to something terrific and then nothing happens because everything would be too drastic, I guess? :|

I’ve rped with types like those. Everything always ended in a huge meltdown in the friendship, largely because they were convinced that they WERE putting their characters through struggle, when, much like AP, it was all artificial and never resulted in any negative character development. Their characters always came out smelling like roses, and it was especially frustrating when I was trying to rp out my own characters’ negative developments, my partners’ characters would basically lord their superiority over mine. (…There was other drama that caused the meltdown, too, but this was still a big part of it.)

One time I tried to co-write a story with someone. Her character ended up being this ~*~totes plain~*~ (but actually beautiful) girl that all the men wanted, so I quickly learned my lesson– don’t co-write anything with anyone. XD Unless you have weirdly identical brain flows.

Btw, I don’t understand people who aren’t down with at least the POSSIBILITY of a break-up. That’s where all the best drama’s at! People don’t like it because it means someone– or both characters– have to be a bit of a shithead, and God forbid their special snowflake has to be a shithead.

      • Lurker says:

Exactly! And I it’s like she’s afraid that if she doesn’t keep reminding the reader that Red deserves all the sympathy/forgiveness/understanding in the world, people might make their own interpretations about misunderstand the character and that would just ruin everything. Sometimes I think that these people know how unbelievably shitty their tops are but, because they get off to it, they paint everything in this good light for fear of censure.

Also, “suethor.” Ha ha! :D That term is awesome.

Regarding your last point, I wish some of them would just own up to what they’re really making.
I have way more respect for an artist/writer who straight up admits that they like to draw/write rape, than one who tries to pass it off as fluffy romance.

      • ^^^^^^^^^^^^ You hit the nail on the head.

Rita and Lurker already covered how shit AP is.

I enjoy how the only “not face” art in this page is just so staggeringly bad. LOOK AT MUH ARMS
